St. Baldrick's Day 2013

This past Saturday, March 16, 2013, Lawrence Township hosted another very successful St. Baldrick's day event at Amalfi's.  Team LIS had a great showing and raised a lot of money for a very worthy cause, finding a cure for childhood cancer.  If you are interested in learning more about the St. Baldricks' day head shaving program or want to donate, please go to www.stbaldricks.org and search for Amalfi's in Lawrenceville, NJ.  Check out the picture below of Mr. Adam and all of the LIS shavees.  We are all very proud of our volunteers who stepped up to the challenge.

Jump Rope & Hoops for Heart

LIS held its 2013 Jump Rope for Heart on Tuesday, March 5th and Hoops for Heart on Friday, March 8th.

As a fundraising incentive, Mr. Casey agreed to be duct-taped to the gym wall by any student who raised more than $50.00.

Ms. Hart helping a student tape Mr. Casey to the wall

Our students raised almost $15,000.00 to benefit the American Heart Association...4th and 5th grade students raised over $11,600.00 and our 6th grade students raised over $3,100.00.

That's a lot of fundraising!!

A special thank you to our Phys Ed Department, Mr. Boggs, Mr. Casey, Mr. Chichilitti, and Ms. Hart for coordinating these two events. Thanks to all our students, their donors, and all the volunteers who made both events such a success!

2nd Annual March Madness Reading Challenge

What is a "March Madness Reading Challenge?" Mrs. Casieri is challenging every student in the school to read at least 30 minutes per day for the month of March (beginning March 1). We kicked off this year's challenge with a "come as your favorite book character" parade.

Coraline & her Other Mother visit the library
Today starts Week 2 of our challenge. Handouts for tracking minutes read are distributed each Friday to students (Week 1 handouts were yellow; this week's handouts are blue). The Challenge is sponsored in part by the PTO. Complete details can be found on Mrs. Casieri's Teacher Page.

If our school meets its reading goal of 835,140 minutes, Mrs. Casieri will let students choose her new hair color. Happy Reading!
